In my volleyball career, I travelled extensively and made many friends all over the world. In team sports, this comes naturally to most of us. However, I also made some friends who were not just teammates, but true friends. We shared our experiences, discussed our faith, and supported each other through difficult times. These friendships have been invaluable to me.

I don't rely on anyone much but friendships like these are a demonstration of God's love. They have been tried and tested and still stand today. They are a source of strength and comfort in difficult times and help me grow closer to God. With a foundation of faith and trust, they provide emotional, spiritual, physical and even financial support. This kind of friendship is an example of how we can relate to others in a Christ-like manner.

While having friends all over the world has its perks, as time goes by we tend to put friendships on the back burner as we get deeper into our careers and other stuff. I read somewhere that having a supportive social circle is an important part of good physical and mental health so losing good friends is something we should not accept.

As I share with you some ways to nurture good friendships pray to God for guidance on how to select friends who will help you grow closer to God.

Choose your circle of friends carefully! Be intentional about forming and cultivating friendships that are based on the same values and beliefs.

Make friendship a priority! This can look like switching gyms just so that you can work out and spend more time together because both lives are busy.

Respecting friends and their boundaries is the key to a healthy friendship. We should feel comfortable enough to express our true selves without fear of judgment.

Be the friend that you would like to have. If you want friends that are "ride or die" be them first.

Communicate Be the friend that calls first.. send a text or funny memes to let them know you are thinking of them.
