If you've ever wondered how to become a professional volleyball player from the Caribbean, you've come to the right place. I am currently in my 13th year as a professional volleyball player in Romania. It wasn't a simple journey but I have learned some key tools along the way that improved my marketability. You can easily implement these tips to get some offers coming your way.

Put Together A CV (Curriculum Vitae).

Volleyball players have a CV. Yes, we sure do! It is very similar to a résumé but focuses more on athletic accomplishments. Providing a detailed history of our accomplishments. We typically include our stats, awards, and any professional teams we have played for. We also include any relevant education and personal information.

Match Videos (Game Videos)

Start collecting videos of all the games you have played. This will give the team a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. Finally, make sure to add captions and annotations to the videos so that they can easily review them.

Highlight Video

These videos tend to be shorter than game videos. They are typically created to capture the most exciting moments of your game like the block, the serve, and attacks. Highlight videos can be created as montages of different games, showcasing the best plays and highlights.

An Agent (Manager)

A volleyball agent/manager is responsible for finding, negotiating and signing players to teams. When I was found by my agent I was playing on the national volleyball team. As my career grew in volleyball, I learned that managers can be found through research, social media and talking to other volleyball players.

Skill Training

Become so good at what you do that they have no choice but to hire you! Focus on honing your skills in your area of expertise. Example: If you are a middle blocker what are you doing to separate yourself from the rest? Maybe you can spike off one leg really well! Take the time to learn and practice the skills you need to succeed in the off-season. Go to volleyball clinics, invest in a strength and conditioning coach, find a mentor, and never stop learning.
